Dartmouth Arrival: One Month Later

Well, it’s been one month since my arrival at Dartmouth. It has been both cooler and more difficult than I had thought it would be. I’m taking completely different classes than I had thought that i would, essentially TAing an undergrad algorithms course, and doing research that is really interesting. I have barely stopped working in the last week, though, despite having only three classes.

The worst thing about it is the weather. It’s really hot during the day, and freezing at night. In a couple months it’s going to be freezing during the day and an Arctic tundra at night. As long as we have snow, I’m ok with it.

On a side note, LaTeX is both amazing and terrifying at the same time.

Video Games and Topology

I know I haven’t updated this site in a long time, but since I’m the only one that reads it, I guess it doesn’t matter. All I have been doing recently is playing video games and reading a book on topology.

Leaving for New Hampshire in 4 weeks. Excited, nervous.

On a side note, please God, if you’re up there, STOP LETTING THE RED SOX PLAYERS GET INJURED! Thanks,

Busy, busy, busy

Life is good, but hectic. I got accepted and will be attending Dartmouth College in the fall for grad school. I’m going up to their CS department’s Open House next week, I’m trying to learn how to make iPhone apps for both school and my upcoming summer internship, trying to keep up with classes, and working to finalize a formal proof for my research I’ve been working on for the last few months. It’s exciting stuff, but I could use a little more free time.

Cornell University

Well, I have officially been accepted to Cornell University for their graduate Computer Science program. YAY! Four years ago when I was a senior in high school I had never programmed before and had no idea what I was going to really be doing, and now I’m finishing up two B.S. degrees, a minor, and am going on to get an Ivy League masters degree. Wow.

Also, I’m currently 15 hours into a coding session with my CS 450 group. We’re working on process control blocks for our operating system. Everything works to the best of our knowledge and we’ve got some pretty documentation. I’ve gotten 6 hours of sleep in the last 3 nights. Need sleep.

Graduate school applications are done. Finally.

After a very stressful application process, all 9 of my applications are completed and submitted. In the next month or so I should have a better idea where I’m going to be next year. Waiting sucks.

The semester is over and I’m bored.

Every time a semester ends I’m happy about it for like 3 or 4 days… and then I get bored and wish it would start up again. What to do? I guess I’ll apply to a couple more grad schools, do some programming and think about what last minute gifts I’m going to buy my family.

Oh, and am I the only person to ever ask for an algorithms textbook for Christmas? I think I am…
